World News – Vinegar Swimming Pool
A radio voice reading out the song title halfway through shouldn’t work. On “Vinegar Swimming Pool” it does. World News open on a heavier riff than usual, with a bass line that won’t budge and drums pushing hard underneath. Then swing back and forth between that riff and a dreamy vocal that keeps dissolving into a long rolled “prrrr”, half noise, half hook. The melodic guitars are still there, just wrapped in something rougher and darker.
It’s the last preview of their debut album “In Purgatory”, recorded at RAK Studios with Tommy Bosustow and out October 16 on Pie & Mash Records. Stay for the final minute: a burst of clean jangle guitar, one more “prrrr”, then an outro that falls apart in the best way.
